Express buses may have to have ‘speed-limiters’: Ong

Express buses may have to have ‘speed-limiters’: Ong

“PORT DICKSON: All express bus operators may soon be required to install “speed-limiters” in their vehicles in an effort to reduce road accidents and fatalities.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said they might also be required to install the Global Positioning System (GPS) in all their vehicles to allow them to monitor their driver’s on-the-road habits.

“At a recent brainstorming session, we discovered that there were many accidents and fatalities involving heavy vehicles. There is a pressing need to check this.

“We decided that one way is to introduce the speed limiters. Eventually, all heavy and commercial vehicle operators may be required to install the speed-limiters,” he said.

Speed-limiters are gadgets that do not allow a vehicle to be driven beyond a certain speed limit.”

It seem there will be another measure by the Ministry to reduce road accidents rates. It is timely for the government agency to setup a serious action against the unscrupulous users. Whatever measures that are having objective to improve the public safety and all road users, especially the one to prevent fatality, should be supported by all.

I believe there will be many views and opinions regarding the speed limiting issue. It differs depending who throws that opinion. Surely the bus company owner and the bus driver will not agree with the direction. It will be burden to them. They may look from the cost of installation and operation. At the end the cost will be transferred to the customer or passenger.

The bus driver may also claim the by limiting the speed, it may not practical. There surely come the time where going with higher speed is inevitable. Otherwise it may causing certain unwanted incident. So mechanism to go away with the speed limiting must be available when it requires. Furthermore it will complicate the driving activities.

Many other people will have other view. Whatever they are, as long as it ensures that there will be no unscrupulous bus driver tailing my car on the highway, I am fully support of this speed limiting plan.

Cultivate a reading habit

It is not surprising when I asked a few of my colleagues about the books they were last read, some of them could not recall for simply they did it for quite some time ago. Perhaps it is true that today book is not the only the major source of knowledge – internet is another source of information and knowledge. I am not talking about form of information but lack of gut to get knowledge.

I am not that avid book reader. However, ss much as possible I try to complete reading at least one book a month. Since last few months, I have tried to keep up with two books a month. So far I have managed to keep it that way.

Happen to be I have come across a good blog regarding habit of book reading on 14 Ways to Cultivate a Lifetime Reading Habit. I found it so useful. The writer has listed down 14 ways how to get the habit. For me two ways are enough to keep me with at least one book a month.

The first one is set 10 minutes time a day and never miss it. It takes a big gut to keep it. In fact, if we can keep it for a month, most likely we are able to keep it lifetime. The habit is there with us.

Why ten minutes? It is simple. Just apply the law of average here. Let say for ten minutes we are able to read through 5 odd pages. For 30 days, we should be able to complete 150 pages, an average total number of pages per book. Easily we can complete it.

Now the issue is, can we find that 10 minutes? We need to deliberately find that time. Is there any time in our life that we are not waiting?

Than that goes to another item in the 14 lists - Always carry a book. We are always in waiting – waiting for friend, for spouse, for kids etc. If you are using public transport, you have ample luxury of time. Wherever you go, take a book with you.  Always look for opportunity of your precious 10 minutes with book.

Only with these two things,  it is enough for me to keep the habit.

It’s me again

It has been a while since my last posting. I hesitate to post though I keep my journal regularly but not online. This time I make appoint to just write and publish online.

So what to write? Again I asked myself. I do not want to spend that much time as it is my bedtime. In front of me is the book “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” which I am currently reading. I read book regularly but I am not a kind of person who like to keep book journal. I just like to read.

I like this parable story line. It is fun and simple reading. The parable is about a successful superstar lawyer whose out-of-balance lifestyle leads him to a new-fatal heart attack in a courtroom. His collapse brings him into spiritual crisis which in turn force him to change his lifestyle through a powerful system. Of course I am still reading it and enjoy it.

I hope to finish reading it soon and able to gain the knowledge from the parable. Most important is how much can I practice it.
